This study from the I. E. Repin Academy of Arts portrays a lean man seated on a low bench, resting his forearms on a raised knee, his face turned in solemn profile. Worked in charcoal, the drawing pulls the pale shirt and weathered hands out of a richly shadowed, near-black background.
