About this work
A solitary iris flower stands at the center of the canvas, its deep indigo petals opening above a slender pale-green stem that runs the full height of the composition and dissolves into drips near the base. Set against an empty, weathered grey field with no other reference, the bloom reads as an isolated, specimen-like presence.
The petals are built from thick, near-black-blue pigment softened into the surrounding grey, with a small warm ochre touch at the flower's throat. The background is worked in dry, scraped strokes of white, grey and pale ochre, its chalky texture broken by vertical drips running toward the lower edge. The restrained palette and worn surface give the image a quiet, meditative stillness.
