About this work
A pale cathedral with a rounded dome stands at the center of a low harbor skyline, surrounded by clustered buildings and a thicket of thin ship masts rising against the sky. The scene is viewed across open water, with the townscape and masts doubled in shimmering reflection below.
Turquoise and teal dominate the water and sky, set off by whites, mauves and touches of gold in the buildings and masts. Paint is dragged and dripped with a knife, letting pigment run down the canvas to suggest rigging, and the overall effect is bright, airy and light-filled.
