About this work
A nude male figure sits sideways on an unseen support, one leg crossed over the other, elbow braced on the raised knee and chin propped on his fist in a pensive, downward gaze. A soft jester's cap with drooping points crowns his head, the only clothed element in an otherwise bare figure study.
Drawn in graphite on white paper in a tall, narrow format, the figure is built from fluid contour lines and patches of cross-hatched shading that model the torso and thigh while leaving feet and background barely indicated. The economy of line and academic anatomical precision give the study a quiet, reflective stillness.
