About this work
A sheet of académie studies focuses on the arm and hand: at left, a full straight arm is drawn from shoulder to a tightly closed fist, its muscles and tendons carefully modeled, with the bones of the forearm and hand sketched beside it. At right, a bent arm shows the biceps flexed and the hand clenched again, paired below with a study of the wrist and finger bones in outline.
Rendered in graphite and white chalk on warm tan paper, the drawing builds volume through dense cross-hatching and soft blending, leaving the paper's own tone for mid-values. Precise contour lines describe each bone and muscle group, giving the sheet a controlled, analytical character typical of anatomical academic drawing.
