About this work
Inside a circular canvas, a cluster of dark clay jugs, an ornate long-necked ewer, a metal coffee pot and cezve stand on a deep blue cloth, surrounded by pomegranates, a green apple and a lemon. Behind them a blue niche opens like a window, framed by a broad band of gold, with a stone-textured border filling the corners of the square support.
Saturated blue, burnt sienna and gold ochre dominate, with the ripe reds of the pomegranates punctuating the cool background. Flat, decorative color areas and a stylized crackled gold border give the composition an emblematic, almost heraldic quality, while the objects themselves are modeled with more traditional shading and highlights.
