About this work
A loose bouquet of roses in pink, white and deep magenta emerges from a barely defined glass vase at the center of an otherwise empty, warm-toned canvas. The blossoms cluster together with little individual detail, their forms merging into soft passages of color that fade toward the edges of the composition.
The paint is thinned and dragged in soft, smeared strokes, with edges left deliberately blurred and unresolved. Warm taupe and olive tones surround pockets of bright pink and white, giving the flowers a glowing, almost dissolving quality. The overall effect is quiet and impressionistic, more a soft impression of blooms than a detailed record.
