About this work
A row of whole figs, dusky purple-green with pale bloom, rests along a narrow wooden ledge against a plain olive backdrop. Two figs at center are sliced in half, exposing their deep red, seed-flecked interior, set apart from the intact fruit on either side.
Muted greens and violets of the skins contrast with the vivid crimson flesh at the composition's center. Light falls evenly across the fruit, picking out glossy highlights on the taut skins and the moist grain of the cut flesh. Brushwork is smooth and tightly controlled, giving the still life a crisp, hyperrealistic finish.
