About this work

Three men in orange and yellow hard hats pull together on a heavy rope leading up to the anchor chain of a large blue-and-red cargo vessel marked "Volgoneft", while a fourth worker braces a cable winch nearby. The ship's high bow dominates the frame, with another vessel and a crane visible behind it, all set against a strip of snow-covered ground.

Broad, confident strokes in cobalt blue, rust-red and grey render the ship's hull and machinery, contrasted against the flat white of the snow. The low horizon and sharp diagonals of rope and chain create a sense of physical strain, capturing the workers' effort with brisk, direct brushwork.
