About this work
A nude woman kneels with her bare back to the viewer, head bowed as an elderly bearded man in a heavy hooded robe reaches out to touch her hair. Two more cloaked, hooded figures stand close behind him, one with hands folded, watching the exchange; the composition is cropped tight above the group's waists, with no setting beyond bare paper.
Rendered in charcoal, the drawing uses broad smudged tone for the heavy robes and finer line for the woman's back and the elder's hands and face. Deep black hoods against the pale untouched paper of her skin give the scene a hushed, ritual gravity. The mood is quiet and charged, between tenderness and unease.
