About this work
Viewed from behind, a standing nude woman raises both arms to gather a red cloth above her pearl-adorned hair, the twist of her spine and hip creating a sinuous S-curve down to her bare buttocks and thighs. Loose olive-gold drapery coils and billows around her lower body, and a shadowy second figure is barely visible crouched in the darkness at the lower left.
Warm amber and gold light rakes across her skin against a near-black ground, punctuated by flecks and drips of red and gold paint scattered like sparks around the drapery. Smooth, polished modeling on the figure contrasts with the looser, spattered handling of the background, creating a glowing, sensuous atmosphere charged with quiet drama.
