About this work
A bald male head is turned three-quarters, its near side dissected to show the layered muscles of the jaw, cheek and neck in full anatomical detail, while the far side of the skull remains a smooth, unbroken dome.
Rendered in graphite with dense cross-hatching, the drawing sets sharply modeled muscle bundles against softly blended smooth passages, a disciplined academic study of underlying facial anatomy rather than a portrait of a person.
