About this work
A panelled door is shown swung open at an angle within a plain doorway, its dark gap revealing only shadow beyond. The door itself, the frame and the surrounding wall are rendered in the same weathered, chalky texture, blurring the line between architecture and surface.
Muted greys, ochres and warm whites dominate, applied in acrylic with graphite worked into the drying paint to leave scratched, granular marks. The uneven, distressed finish and the unlit void behind the door create a hushed, faintly unsettling stillness, as if the space beyond has been abandoned.
