About this work
A long horizontal mass of cloth stretches across the sheet, twisted and knotted so densely that it reads as a wrapped, prone form, one end gathered like a covered head and the other trailing loose, pointed folds. No body is actually exposed; only the cloth's coiled topology suggests a figure, floating alone on an unbroken black ground with no other spatial cues.
Worked entirely in charcoal, the drawing builds volume through a narrow scale of greys, from near-white highlights along the crests of each fold to deep black in the crevices between them. The soft, carefully blended shading and total absence of surrounding detail give the drapery a hushed, tense, almost funereal presence.
