About this work

A single, sand-colored field covers the canvas, its surface scored and scraped with a dense scatter of thin dark lines, numerals and letter-like marks that read like fragments of script or a coded diagram. Faint outlined shapes suggesting small structures or vessels emerge here and there among the scratches, with a few patches of rust-orange and near-black breaking through near the edges.

The palette stays almost monochrome, built from ochres and tans scumbled and dragged across the ground, so the surface itself becomes the subject. Incised lines cut through the dry paint like writing pressed into sand, giving the whole a worn, weathered texture. The effect is quiet and enigmatic, closer to an inscribed tablet than a picture.
