About this work
The upper two-thirds of the composition show a dark wine-red sky dotted with rows of small white eight-pointed stars, one of them rendered in gold near the center, connected by faint diagonal lines like a constellation map. Below, a triangular form rises from the bottom edge, filled with a repeating checkerboard of red squares and black-and-cream triangles bordered by a pale zigzag edge.
Flat, evenly applied color defines both the smooth night sky and the hard-edged geometric pattern, with little visible brushwork beyond a slightly mottled ground. The pairing of a starry expanse with a folk-pattern mountain or roof shape creates a mysterious, symbolic image poised between night sky and ornament.
