About this work
A young dancer with dark hair pulled into a bun bends sharply forward, both hands reaching down to adjust the ribbon of her pointe shoe. Her stiff white tutu flares up behind her bowed back, and a wooden barre and floorboards fill the plain studio setting behind her.
Warm ochre and umber tones dominate the background and floor, thrown into contrast by the crisp white of the tutu and the pale modeling of her skin. Confident, economical brushwork and focused directional light give the figure a solid, academic weight and a quiet, concentrated mood.
