About this work
Eight square panels arranged in two rows of four show tight close-ups of faces against black grounds. Most depict a balding, wrinkled older man caught mid-gesture — yawning, blowing into a fist, resting fingers against pursed lips, covering one eye with a spread hand, rubbing an eye, pressing knuckles below the nose. The final panel breaks the pattern with a young woman, eyes closed, hands clasped near her chin.
Rough, scumbled paint in red, orange, and flesh-pink builds each face over black, leaving skin looking raw and lit from within; the repeated hand-to-face gesture across the grid creates a tense, almost ritual rhythm.
