About this work
A hybrid creature crouches against a flat sky-blue backdrop: a bearded human face is fused at the temple with a horned, long-eared animal skull, its jaw bared in a grimace. A pale, gaunt arm with elongated fingers grips a stone ledge, and wild dark curls spill from the top of the skull down over a rocky shoulder.
The skin is rendered in chalky greys and ochres, flecked with tiny sparks of blue, green and lavender that give the surface a mineral, weathered texture. Heavy impasto and scumbled highlights model the bony forms, while the flat cyan background isolates the figure and heightens its unsettling, otherworldly presence.
