About this work
A single figure is seen from behind and slightly to the side, bare shoulders and upper back filling most of the canvas, with reddish-brown hair gathered close to the head. No interior, furniture, or other figures are visible; the setting is reduced entirely to a dense field of color surrounding the isolated torso.
Thick, encrusted paint is scraped and dragged in ochre, mustard, and burnt-red tones, giving the entire surface a rough, weathered crust, while the flesh is built from paler scumbled strokes.
