About this work
A single butterfly is seen frontally with both wings fully spread, filling almost the entire square canvas. Each wing carries a dark rounded patch near the body, bands of pale cream and touches of blue along the outer edges, and the thin line of the body runs vertically down the center dividing the two wings.
The wings are built with dry, dragged brushstrokes that leave visible ridges and scratches, moving from warm sepia and brown through cream to cool blue-grey accents at the tips. The muted, earthy background is worked in soft rectangular patches that frame the insect without any landscape detail. The handling is loose and textural, giving the image a quiet, contemplative stillness.
