About this work
A horizontal burst of fine scratched lines radiates from a point near the center, echoing the same butterfly-wing form seen elsewhere in the series, with one wing spreading into pale cream ground on the left and the other into darker ochre and umber tones on the right. Faint lace-like imprinted patterns show through at the upper edges.
Cream, ochre and black dominate a rough, heavily scored surface, its radiating scratches and drips built up in thick impasto. The stark split between the light left half and the dark, energetic right half gives the piece an intense, restless charge.
