About this work
A woman in profile closes her eyes to inhale pink roses growing from an arched stone form pierced with round window-like openings revealing sky and more blossoms beyond. Her cloak is patterned with a dense collage of towers and staircases, and small butterflies drift near her shoulder.
In the lower corner a stained-glass-style panel shows two nude figures shielding their faces beside a winged, red-robed angel, recalling the expulsion from Eden. Fine, smooth brushwork renders her skin against flat, ornamental patterning and graphic linework, in grays, pinks and blues with gold accents, producing a dreamlike, symbolic atmosphere.
