About this work
A dark, elongated bottle lies horizontally across the lower half of the canvas, its neck and rounded body picked out with a pale highlight. Above and around it the surface dissolves into broad, hazy fields of color with no other objects clearly legible, suggesting a tabletop or wall rather than a defined setting.
Warm ochre, mustard and pale cream tones are brushed on in loose, sweeping strokes that leave much of the composition close to abstraction. Soft, diffuse light gives the scene a hushed, contemplative stillness, with the bottle's dark silhouette anchoring an otherwise dissolving field of color.
