About this work
A narrow street is framed by tall stone buildings with shuttered windows and steep rooflines receding into the distance, their facades rendered in soft grays, creams, and dusty pinks. In the foreground a glazed roof with a ribbed iron frame slopes toward the viewer, while a strip of pale sky, streaked with pink, opens above the rooftops at the street's vanishing point.
The paint is applied in short, broken strokes typical of plein-air impressionism, blending building, sky, and roof into a soft, atmospheric haze rather than sharply defined architecture. Cool grays and blues are warmed by touches of rose and ochre, suggesting diffused morning or dusk light, and the loose, textured surface gives the quiet street a hushed, contemplative calm.
