About this work
A steep, weathered rock summit rises at the center, its upper reaches wrapped in drifting cloud, with a lower ridge of similar crags trailing off to the left into haze. A dense stand of pines covers the near slope, their trunks and reddish undergrowth visible among scattered boulders in the foreground.
The palette is muted violet-grey and green, with the peak catching a warmer ochre light breaking through the cloud cover. Distant ridges are softened into flat, hazy shapes while the near pines are picked out with more defined, textured strokes, giving the scene a heavy, mysterious atmosphere.
