About this work
Two figures are locked in a wrestling hold in a barren, rocky landscape: a muscular nude man with wings and wind-swept red hair grips a smaller figure in loose blue garments, who braces bare feet against the ground and grasps back. A staff is raised overhead in one hand. Cracked orange earth, jagged cliffs, and a few sparse trees surround them under a dark sky filled with stars and streaking meteors.
Hot orange ground tones dominate against a deep indigo night sky, the winged figure's pale flesh and multicolored wing the coolest accents. Brushwork is smooth on the bodies, rougher in the cracked rock. The strain of the two locked figures against the empty landscape gives the scene a tense, dramatic charge.
