About this work

A slender young birch, its sparse leaves turned gold and orange, stands alone on a grassy point jutting into a wide lake. Across the water, low hills carry a patchwork of autumn foliage in rust, ochre, and green, fading toward a hazy tree line, while broken flecks of light catch on the lake's surface.

Warm gold and orange in the birch and far hillside sit against cool greens and grey-blues in the water and sky. Clouds are built from soft, mottled strokes of grey and white, while the water carries quick, broken touches of light, giving the whole scene an airy, slightly wistful feel of thin autumn warmth.
