About this work
A stag with full antlers rests on the bank while a spotted doe and a young fawn stand at the edge of a shallow, rock-strewn stream running through the forest floor. Tall trunks rise on either side, their canopy turning gold, amber and rust, with fallen leaves scattered among moss-covered stones.
Warm sunlight filters through the thinning autumn canopy, dappling the water and rocks in soft, glowing patches against cool shadow. The paint is smooth and detailed, rendering bark, leaves and fur with careful naturalism. The overall effect is calm and quietly luminous, a peaceful moment of stillness in the woods.
