About this work

A tall, narrow canvas is filled edge to edge with an overflowing bouquet of flowers, seen close-up with no vase, table or background visible. Clusters of blossoms in deep magenta, pink, lavender, orange and white are massed together, their individual petals suggested rather than drawn, so the whole reads as an abundant, tangled field of bloom.

Paint is applied in thick, dragged impasto ridges, likely worked with a palette knife, leaving raised furrows of color that catch the light. Warm oranges and cool violets sit side by side, unified by a muted grey-green ground showing through in places. The heavy, tactile surface and saturated color give the picture an energetic, vivid presence.
