About this work
Two sets of large branching antlers - one russet-brown, one pale grey - crown a bleached deer skull at the centre of the composition, while a white ribcage curves along the lower left. Flat, stylised silhouettes of standing deer in purple and ochre stand among the bones, all set against a black ground scattered with fine white speckles and crossed by pale horizontal bands suggesting museum display cases.
A limited palette of black, violet, ochre and chalky white flattens every form into simplified outline rather than modeled volume. The speckled background evokes dust or starlight, and the horizontal bands hint at exhibition casework, together producing a hushed, enigmatic mood suggestive of a natural history display suspended outside time.
