About this work
An acoustic guitar leans against the back of a wooden chair, its neck crossing a cane hooked over the frame; a coat with buttons and a small umbrella pin hangs behind it, and a second chair with a folded cloth sits in the foreground on bare floorboards. No figure appears, only these recently used objects.
Translucent washes of ochre, rust and violet overlap and bleed into one another, creating a mottled, crackled surface across coat and chair. Forms are built from layered, semi-transparent color rather than firm outlines, softening the edges between wood and cloth. The warm, muted palette and empty seat give the scene a quiet hominess.
