About this work
A ballet dancer, viewed from behind and above, folds forward at the waist with both arms extended down to touch her crossed pointe shoes, her head bowed so only the crown and nape are visible. She wears a pale, gauzy tutu that pools around her in soft layered tulle, with ribbons crossing at the back of her hair. The plain, light background keeps full focus on the curve of her back and the geometry of the bent pose.
Muted ivory, cream and pale pink dominate the palette, with the tutu's tulle rendered in feathery, dry-brushed strokes against smoother, more finished passages on the skin of the back and arms. Faint vertical drips and scuffed texture in the lower background suggest a worn studio surface, adding a raw edge to the otherwise delicate figure. The pose and hushed tonal range create a serene, introspective moment of physical concentration.
