About this work

A shallow, chipped ceramic bowl with a pale turquoise glaze holds a mound of apples in red, yellow, and green, their curling stems still carrying dry brown leaves. Loose bunches of pale green and deep purple grapes spill over the rim, resting on a plain gray tabletop against a soft, cloudy cream background.

Light falls softly from the upper left, modeling each fruit with delicate highlights and warm reflected shadow. The paint handling is smooth and closely observed, with the dried leaves picked out in fine, brittle strokes, giving the arrangement a quiet, unforced stillness.
