About this work
A row of tapering pilasters, each topped with an ornate carved capital and painted in a different marbled pattern of green, rose, teal and sand, fans upward into a dark, star-scattered sky. At the center an arched turquoise-trimmed niche frames a small icon-like scene: a white dove hovering above a terracotta vase filled with white lilies set against a pale sky.
The pilasters carry dense, faux-marble textures in saturated color set against a gold-leaf ground, contrasting with the flatter, softly modeled central image. Ornamental borders, gilded tones and the symmetrical, gate-like composition give the work a hieratic, icon-like stillness, while the night sky and scattered stars add a hushed, devotional quiet.
