About this work

The close-cropped view shows only a pair of bare human calves and feet standing on a grey stone plinth, seen slightly from behind. From each ankle a pair of feathered wings unfurls, brown-and-cream mottled plumage folding downward toward the ground beside the bare toes.

Warm flesh tones on the calves contrast with the cool grey stone and pale backdrop, lit by a strong side light that models muscle and delicate feather structure alike. Tight, detailed brushwork renders skin and plumage with near-photographic precision, giving the grafted anatomy an uncanny, quietly mysterious presence.
