About this work
A dense screen of slender bare trees with reddish bud-tips fills the foreground of a city garden, a lamppost standing among the trunks. Beyond them stretches a long two-story yellow building with a green roof and pilasters, and to its right a taller structure with a golden dome and colonnade is partly veiled by branches and haze, with a lawn and path along the base.
A soft blue-gray sky, ochre-yellow facade, patches of green grass and violet-toned haze around the dome make up the palette. Light is bright and diffused, giving a slight atmospheric bloom; brushwork is quick and sketchy, trunks drawn in dark calligraphic strokes, producing an airy, transitional early-spring mood.
