About this work
A pale mint-green wall meets a band of pale blue near the ceiling in the corner of an interior, the wall carrying a diffuse, unresolved smudge of pink and yellow near its center. To the right, a partly open door reveals striped wood paneling or a wardrobe interior, while a muted taupe floor stretches across the bottom of the composition.
Soft blue-green, ochre and dusty rose are blended in loose pastel strokes with edges left deliberately unresolved, under an even, shadowless light. The overall handling is atmospheric rather than descriptive, giving a plain domestic wall a quiet, melancholic and slightly enigmatic presence.
