About this work
Towering banks of grey-blue cloud fill most of the canvas, thinning to bright breaks near the horizon where light still reaches the water. Below, a quiet silver-grey sea stretches to a low rocky headland covered in pine, with a small rock outcrop breaking the surface; in the foreground a pebbled shore is dotted with resting gulls.
The palette stays within cool greys, blues and muted whites, the clouds built up in soft blended masses that read as both weighty and luminous. Broad, even brushwork unifies sky and sea, while the huddled birds add a small note of stillness against the gathering weather, giving the scene a tense, expectant calm.
