About this work
A dark bronze statue shows a seated man in a coat, head tilted and one arm draped over the bench back, mounted on a stone pedestal within a snowy park. Bare trees rise around the monument, and beyond them stands a long ochre-yellow classical building topped by a small gilded onion dome; a lone pink-coated figure walks in the distance.
Snow lies thick on the pedestal, branches, and rooftops, painted in cool blue-white strokes against the warm yellow facade and the statue's near-black patina. Loose, scumbled brushwork and soft edges convey crisp winter air and diffused daylight, giving the park a hushed, wintry stillness.
