About this work
Five figures share a small, densely furnished room: a man stands at a doorway with his back turned, a woman in an orange dress plays an upright piano crowned with a row of icons, and a hooded, cloak-like figure sits reading sheet music beside her. In front, a child stacks colored blocks on a patchwork-quilted floor while an older figure with headphones sits cross-legged nearby.
Saturated pink, red, orange and blue fill the composition edge to edge, with flattened, sharply outlined forms and patterned textiles echoing the icons' decorative borders. The high-key color and tightly packed figures create a warm, buzzing, almost theatrical energy, blending domestic ordinariness with an undercurrent of ritual.
