About this work

Two roosters collide at the center of the canvas, a dark bird with blue-black and red plumage lunging from the left toward a white rooster whose feathers explode outward on the right. Wings and tails blur into streaks of motion, and no ground or setting is defined beyond a hazy grey field, keeping the entire focus on the moment of impact between the two birds.

Paint is applied in fast, dragged and slashed strokes, with thick daubs of red, gold and white standing out against smoky grey and black grounds. Form dissolves into gesture at the edges of the birds, while patches of pure color mark beaks, combs and wing-tips. The raw, energetic handling and collision of warm and cool tones convey the violent speed of the fight rather than precise anatomical description.
