About this work
At left, a woman in a red top and rolled blue trousers skates past on roller skates, her body angled back in motion. Behind her, two men in caps and hats grip long handles on a massive grooved roller, straining forward; a fourth man in goggles reclines across the machine, shading his face.
Bodies are built from smooth rounded volumes with a grainy, stippled shading, set against flat blocks of ochre, blue and grey. The muted palette is broken by the woman's red top, and the diagonal poses give the labor scene a rhythmic, almost mechanical energy.
