About this work
Nine panels are arranged in an irregular grid, each a close study of a winter surface: a rusted metal wheel or fan embedded in crusted snow surrounded by tire tracks and boot prints, frost-covered oak leaves, shattered ice shards, small red berries scattered on white, dried grass stalks poking through snow crossed by paw prints, and heavy tire treads crossing a manhole cover.
The near-monochrome palette of white, grey and rusty brown is broken only by scattered red berry accents. Thickly textured, scumbled paint mimics crusted snow, ice and corroded metal, while the cropped, overlapping views build a cold, austere, almost documentary study of a frozen ground.
