About this work
A cluster of nearly all-white and cream vessels—round-bellied jugs, tall bottles, a stemmed cup and a clear glass carafe—stands grouped on a wooden shelf. Two of the ceramic jugs bear a small hand-painted blue flower motif, and between them rises a white vase holding a loose bunch of dried, faded blossoms.
Rendered almost entirely in whites, greys and pale blues, the painting relies on subtle tonal shifts and soft edges rather than local color to separate one vessel from the next. Thick, chalky strokes build the highlights on rims and shoulders, while the background dissolves into a hazy grey. The mood is quiet, restrained and contemplative, closer to a tonal study than a colorful display.
