About this work
Two wicker armchairs stand empty on the wooden floor of a glassed veranda, flanked by a potted plant on the windowsill and a red patterned fabric draped at the right edge. Tall multi-paned windows fill the upper half of the composition, opening onto a dense green garden of trees and shrubs.
Bright daylight floods through the glass, dappling the varnished floor with reflected white and gold patches and picking out the woven texture of the chairs in warm ochre and brown. Quick, loose strokes of green and yellow suggest sunlit foliage outside, and the whole interior has a warm, quiet, sun-washed calm.
