About this work
A bare-chested man crowned with a headdress of straw, dried flowers, and ribbons tilts his head back to blow into a horn-like object, while gripping the collar of a younger man crouched low beneath him. The two fill the vertical canvas against a bare, mottled backdrop.
Painted mainly in ochre, umber, and grey, with bright accents of pink and gold in the trailing ribbons, the surface is built from loose, dragged strokes and scraped passages. Light falls unevenly across the two bodies, giving the scene a raw, theatrical energy.
