About this work

Several earthenware vessels of differing size and age — a squat clay jar, two dark metal-handled jugs, and a large pale jug with a cork stopper — stand grouped together on a wooden ledge. A ripe pomegranate, a small wooden vial and a yellow-green pear are set in front of them against a rough, cracked plaster wall.

Raking side light in muted ochre, gray and warm brown tones models the curved surfaces and casts long shadows across the table. Textured, visible brushwork echoes the cracked wall behind, giving the grouping a quiet, timeworn stillness.
