About this work
Viewed from an upper-story window, the composition looks down over a cluster of ochre brick buildings with steeply pitched, snow-covered roofs and a passage leading through an archway. A small figure is visible in one lit window on the right, and bare trees and a distant onion dome show above the rooftops, all softened by falling snow.
The palette is limited to warm ochre and brown walls set against cool greys and whites, painted in smooth, controlled strokes typical of realist cityscape work. The muffled, snow-blurred light lends the courtyard a quiet, wintry calm.
