About this work
A traditional wooden sailboat, its furled sail and rigging rising from a green-painted canopy, sits moored just offshore, its hull painted rust-red below a worn wooden waterline. The boat's name and registration, 'Sea Brothers No.2 Zanzibar' and 'SP270314,' are lettered along the bow. Sandy shallows in the foreground give way to deeper turquoise water, with two small distant sailboats on the horizon.
The palette shifts from pale sandy pink and aquamarine in the shallows to deeper cobalt blue farther out, under a soft, high sky dotted with light clouds. Fine, controlled brushwork renders the wood grain, ropes, and lettering with precision, while looser strokes describe the rippling water. The still air and clear light lend the scene a calm, sunlit tranquility.
